Zaragoza Spain Travel Guide

Zaragoza is a lesser known city in Spain that many travelers don't know about. Zaragoza offers travelers rich culture, beautiful museums, plentiful shopping, tasty tapas and memorable sightseeing.

Zaragoza, España.
Zaragoza is located on the northern part of Spain in the Aragon region. Sitting along the Ebro River, Zaragoza finds itself in a strategic location halfway between Madrid and Barcelona with a high-speed train station and an airport easily accessible to those who want to explore the area. It's actually one of the 5th biggest cities in Spain with approximately 700,000 residents. It is home to an array of museums that's dedicated to art and Roman history in particular. One of its defining features of Zaragoza is the stunning cathedral, Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, a Roman catholic church in the heart of the Plaza del Pilar you can't miss it. Plaza del Pilar is actually one of the biggest plazas in all of Spain. This plaza has not one but two churches located in close proximities to each other! La Seo Cathedral is also a site not to miss with beautiful architecture and  a cool tapestry museum located inside. There's much more to Zaragoza than just beautiful churches but it's street art scene, food, museums and festival.

Zaragoza was another pit-stop city that we only got to see for a short time before heading to Barcelona. We were dropped off at the Plaza de Pilar, where we were free to do whatever we wanted until we had to go back on the bus. You had the option of entering the beautiful basilica or just walking around the plaza. I recommend going inside the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar and going to the top of the north tower, to see the best views of the city from above. It was nice to see the plaza not filled with tourists when we first arrived since it was still pretty early. But as it got closer to lunch time, the streets began to get flooded with people. There were many cute restaurants and cafes along the plaza as well as some shops. I couldn't help stopping by one of the cafe's and ordering some churros and a cup of hot chocolate. I mean calories don't count on vacation right? Although we didn't get to spend a lot of time in the city, it's charm was evident through the lively streets. Even driving on the coach bus and looking out the window, I saw a lot of beautiful street art and murals around the city. I would definitely go back and explore the city some more if I had the chance in the future!
