Getaway House | Catskills, New York

Getaway House New York Review

Ever wanted to getaway from the hustle and bustle from New York City but didn't know where to go? I found the cutest cabin that's only two hours away from NYC and it's the perfect place to unwind and relax in nature!

Getaway House.
Address: You'll receive the address upon booking | Catskills, New York

Getaway House is a company that originated in Brooklyn, New York. It offers tiny home cabin rentals out in the woods. They have properties across the United States so definitely check out their website to see if there is one nearby where you live. The cabins are just a two hour drive from main cities which makes it super convenient for a weekend getaway. Their message is to get back to the simplicity of life where you are disconnected from your every day fast-paced lifestyle.

I was in desperate need of a weekend getaway just to get that refresh, reset, and reconnect time away from my daily life. Getaway House was just what I needed and couldn't wait to spend time in nature. I've actually never stayed in a tiny home before, let alone a cabin so this was definitely going to be a new experience for me. I've recently seen many makeover home shows on television showcasing tiny homes and I was so glad I was able to book a stay in one to see what it's really all about.

After a two hour drive, we finally made it to the Getaway House outpost. What I love about the booking process here is that they send you the name of your cabin and key-code hours before your arrival time. When you pull in you'll find a sign saying you have arrived at the Getaway House property and you just follow the signs until you find the name of your cabin. We got to stay in cabin Grace, and you are able to just park your car right next to your cabin! The property has a handful of cabins scattered throughout the area but you still have a sense of privacy and seclusion.

The cabin itself is very spacious for being considered a tiny home. Every nook and cranny has an intentional purpose and loved it's use of space. I was so glad to see a full functioning shower and restroom just because I don't think I can do the whole 'real camp life' experience. This is like a step up from that and gives you the luxuries you love but still being in nature! The details that went into the cabins were amazing from the books and cards available, the dining nook, and having a radio and lantern available were greatly appreciated. I've always loved a handwritten letter and so I loved seeing the personalized welcome card upon arrival. The cellphone lock-box is such a great idea and think I need to get one for when I'm at home. Putting your phone away and really being present is something I enjoyed during my stay. FYI, there's no wifi on the property! Don't let that scare you, you can get signal once drive away from the property.

I recommend to go food shopping and bring the amount of food, snacks, and drinks you will need during your stay. There was a supermarket nearby but also the cabin has provisions that you can purchase. But if cooking isn't really your thing, you can drive to the nearest eateries to fulfill your hunger needs. To unplug from your daily routine, I recommend bringing a book, any games you like to play if you're coming with other people, download a podcast or music playlist before hand to unwind during your stay. If you wanted to explore the area, I have a blog post sharing some sites to check out (click here) for more info on the Catskills!

Overall Thoughts.
I highly recommend checking this place out to get the full unplugging in nature experience. Never did I think I would enjoy the tiny home/cabin life, but I sure did and wished I could've stayed longer! I love staying in unique accommodations and this was definitely a place I recommend everyone to experience at least once in their lives! I loved the whole set up of this property and having no wifi didn't really bother me while I was there. As many of you already know I love staying in all sorts of accommodations from hostels, hotels, airbnbs, and resorts to showcase accommodations of all budgets. Also by sharing this experience I hope it shows that you can take weekend getaways nearby and still explore new surrounding areas!

  25. Thank you for this review! Looking forward to my stay soon! Did you bring the lights? What about the s'mores ingredients? Anything else you suggest bringing along?

    1. Yes I did bring the lights, thought it would be fun for photos lol. I don't remember the ingredients that are in the s'mores kit but it was just 2 graham crackers, the marshmellows and chocolate included. They have pretty much all the basis covered of things you need. If you would like to bring extra games, books to read, or props for photos if thats what you're into. Other than that it was great experience staying at Getaway House!
