Toledo, España.
Only half an hour away from Madrid, you can easily take a day trip to Toledo. If you're familiar with the history of the Roman Empire and the Spanish Civil War, Toledo may ring a bell. Toledo has existed at least 2000 years, since the Roman times. In the Middle Ages it used to be one of the biggest city on the Iberian Peninsula. This is no wonder why it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there's so much history and beauty in this city that it cannot be missed! A fun fact of the city is that it use to be Spain's capital before the Spanish kings moved to Madrid and made it's new capital. Toledo is nicknamed the city of three cultures because it was shared by the Jews, Muslims, and Christians. You can see the influences of these religions throughout the city by the cathedrals, mosques, churches, synagogues, and monasteries all in close proximity of each other.
Toledo was another pit stop city for us during this tour. We stopped at a look out point which had the most incredible views of Toledo and we took a group photo before we headed to the city. As we were walking we saw a wedding taking place at one the the many churches in the city and it's really awesome to see how different people dress at weddings here. We had a walking city tour and then had free time to do as we pleased. This day was actually so hot as the day went on and also I have to warn you, wear comfortable shoes! There is a lot of steep and inclined streets with cobble stone so keep that in mind when you're visiting. If you're feeling hungry there's so many restaurant options in Toledo but I really enjoyed Mercado de San Agustin, it's a multi-level market with so many different options of food, tapas, and desserts. If you're into souvenir shopping, there's so many medieval trinkets to buy in the city. Toledo was known for steeling making and one of it's popular designs were swords. You'll find many sword shops throughout the city, so if you're interested in that make sure to stop here to get one.
This will be last post of my Spain trip. After departing Toledo we headed to Madrid where the tour ended after our goodbye dinner. I actually stayed an extra day and if you want to see a full Madrid guide (click here) for a detailed post. Also if you are curious to know my thoughts on this tour, I did a full tour review (click here) where you can check it out for more information.
