DIY Decorative Pillows // No Sewing Required

September 21, 2017

It's officially FALL! This is my favorite time of year, which means it's time to switch up the decor. I have a thing for decorative pillows which is a problem. Instead of buying new ones each season to match my decor, I decided to DIY them. If you want to learn on how to do this, keep reading!

I was inspired by these two blue pillows we had on my couch which were totally clashing with the fall theme I was thinking of in my head. Instead of buying new decorative pillows, which can sometimes add up over time. I decided to try a new DIY project. Replacing the fabric on old pillows is an inexpensive way to switch up your decor colors for different seasons. The best part of this project is there no sewing required! If you're like me and suck at sewing, this will be the perfect DIY project for you!

What You Need.
To do this pillow project you will need:
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun
Lets Get Started.
You will need some pillows for this project obviously. These are old pillows we tend to put out during the summer.
I bought this plain pillow (20x20) at Hobby Lobby. It's slightly bigger the other two pillows and more plush. This was $11.99 at Hobby Lobby but with a coupon it came out to be $7.19.
The type of fabric you would want to use is up to you, I chose two different textures. I bought 1 yard  (3.99) of the green fabric at Hobby Lobby to cover up the two blue pillows. I bought 1 1/2 yards (6.49, on sale) of the fluffy fabric to cover up the 20x20 pillow.
You will need good scissors to cut through thicker fabrics, glue sticks, and a hot glue gun!
Flip your fabric, having the fluffy side on the floor and the interior facing you.
Depending on the size of your pillow, measure out where you want to cut off any extra fabric.
Make sure to leave an inch or two extra, just in case your measurements are off. It's better to have extra fabric than less!
Now that your pillow fabric is all cut, it's time to hot glue the edges. Make sure you work fast because hot glue tends to dry quickly. If there is any spots you missed, go back in with the hot glue to close them up. Leave out to dry for an hour or two before placing the pillow in it's designated area!
*Repeat the same steps for the rest of the pillows*

Before and After.

  1. One additionally thing you need to take care of is the expulsion of stains. You should know how to do this in a way that would not harm the velvet curtains or demolish their surface. Velvet curtains
