Visiting a Sunflower Field

Sunflower Field in New Jersey

I visited a sunflower field for the fist time and had to share my experience and this amazing location!

Brodhecker Farms.
Address: 2 Branchville Lawson Rd, Newton, New Jersey 07860

Brodhecker Farms is located in the Sussex County area. This is a fully functioning family owned farm. operating for over fifty years. They offer many services and manufacture many products for all your agricultural needs. Why I'm even posting about this place on my blog is because of their incredible seven acre sunflower fields! We found this place by complete accident and so glad that we did.

Here's what initially happened and how we ended up at Brodhecker Farms. So my abuelita was turning 79 years young and we always try to take her to an activity that she will enjoy. If you don't know, she loves anything that has to do with flowers and plants. A few months ago my mom and I thought it would be a fun idea to take her to a sunflower field for her birthday. We all have never been to one before and after doing some research we found a sunflower field (not this one) that was somewhat nearby.

After checking the website weeks prior to my abuelita's birthday we found out they were having their grand opening the same day as her birthday which was perfect. We got ready and didn't tell her where we going because we wanted it to be a surprise. After a few car singing moments and rest stops, we made it to other sunflower field destination. We parked our car and start walking to the entrance tent to be a bit disappointed because there were no sunflowers in sight. Not only that but they were charging $10 per person to enter the farm and claimed "to have around 20 sunflowers in bloom in the back." We just didn't think it was worth it to pay just to see a few sunflowers. There were other people who arrived with their cameras ready and saw license plates from other states to also be disappointed and left as well.

We were upset because this place was more than hour drive out of our way and there wasn't really much to do in that area. So I went on my phone did some googling to try to salvage our trip here and found another sunflower field that was 15 minutes away. This is how we ended up in Brodhecker Farms and so glad that we did. This place only charged us $10 to park the car and we could clearly see endless amounts of sunflowers in bloom. You had access to their barns on the property and they offered a variety of activities and services. Towards the back of the farm there was red tractor where you can step up and see the fields at an elevation which was just breathtaking.

I highly recommend visiting here if their sunflower season is still in bloom. The views, sunflower fields, and overall experience was so worth visiting here. I saw many families, friends, and couples while we were here taking photos. I love that you could also have a picnic setup on the property as well. If you wanted to take some sunflowers home, they were only $1 per stem. We were all just so happy to walk around and take in all this beauty. All of us enjoyed our time here and especially my abuelita which is all that mattered at the end of the day. I'm so glad that our surprise didn't go to complete waste after all. We ended taking five sunflower stems home with us and they lasted a long time! Enjoy some of the photos I took while were there as well as a video I put together down below.
