What to Pack For the FIFA World Cup

You're heading to Russia for the World Cup but don't know what to pack. Here's a packing guide to help you figure what to put in your suitcase for your upcoming trip to Russia!

Packing Guide.
Can you believe it? It's that time to start thinking about your going to bring in your suitcase. For the majority of us, it's going to be out first time heading to Russia and a World Cup. You may be overly excited and anxious to just be there already but here are a few things to keep in mind before heading to the airport. Depending what part of Russia you're heading to for the game your attending or if you plan to explore as much as Russia as possible, you have to pack smart for the weather. With all the research I've done, the weather seems unpredictable especially in different regions throughout Russia. I'm actually headed to Russia for a month and traveling to St. Petersburg, Moscow, Saransk/Penza, Samara, and Kazan with only a carry-on suitcase and a backpack. So with that being said here's what I suggest to pack in your suitcase.

Outerwear.
Bringing a light jacket is important especially since the weather is unpredictable in Russia. Since I'll be in Russia from the beginning of June, it's still a bit chilly. The weather ranges 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit but sometimes can reach the high 80's during a heatwave. The temperature does drop at night so definitely bring something keep you warm. Check the weather for the different cities you'll be going to to get more of an accurate idea.

Sweaters.
I like to pack in layers so having sweaters in hand is necessary to me. Airports and airplanes tend to be air conditioned and I tend to get cold quickly so I always bring a sweater just in case. Whether it's a hoodie or cardigan, having one is always good to have in your suitcase weather it's for fashion purposes or to keep warm in weather conditions.

Tops.
If you're staying in Russia for a long period of time, having a variation of tops is needed so that you can mix and match with different outfits. I know this is geared towards the girls who are reading this maybe not so much for guys haha. I know for me, I don't want to be photographed with the same outfit over and over, maybe it's just the travel blogger in me but having options is key. Having short sleeves, tank tops, long sleeves, and one or two dressy tops if you plan on going somewhere that requires to dress up. As for the guys who maybe be reading this, bring a few shirts and jerseys and do laundry while there and rotate them while you're there.

Bottoms.
Bring whatever you feel comfortable in such as jeans, leggings, shorts, or skirts. I usually bring two of each to have options. I'm also a dress kind of girl so I tend to pack more dresses than bottoms. For guys, bring a few jeans, shorts, sweatpants, and one dressy pants just in case you go somewhere that requires you to be more dressed up.

Footwear.
Bring COMFORTABLE footwear! You will be out and about exploring all day which requires a lot of walking so bringing the right shoes is important. I brought running black sneakers, white walking shoes, and a pair of sandals. I have issues with my feet so having the right shoes is key when traveling so whatever it may be for  you make sure to pack the right footwear.

DON'T FORGET.
Don't zip up your suitcase just yet, here are very important things you can't forget to bring with you.
  • FIFA FAN ID: You will not be able to enter or leave the country without your Fan ID. This acts as your passport and visa to enter Russia. When entering the stadiums on game day, you will need your Fan ID to enter (they scan it). You also are granted free transportation on buses and metros when showing your FAN ID on game days.
  • FIFA GAME TICKETS: It will be a shame if you left your tickets behind at home. Make sure you take them with you and guard them with your life haha. You will not be allowed in a stadium without a official game ticket. They recommend not to take pictures of your tickets and if for some reason you loose them and try to use a picture of it, you're chances are really low on getting in.
  • JERSEYS/FLAGS/GEAR: This is the time to show your pride in whatever team you're supporting. Bring all your flags, jerseys, bracelets, body paint, and hair accessories. Go all out and show your pride and love in Russia.
  • CAMERA: If you're like me and are always running low on storage on your phone, bring a camera! Document your trip, fun memories, and of course the beautiful sights.
  • CONVERTER/ADAPTER: Depending what country you're coming from, you will need to charge your electronics and you're going to need a converter/adapter to do so.
  • PORTABLE PHONE CHARGER: You don't want to have a dead phone when you're out and about exploring the town. Having a portable charger is important to keep in your day bag, you never know when you maybe need your phone.
Now that we have everything important ready to go, zip up your bags and head to the airport. I'm so beyond excited that I will be attending the World Cup and also visiting Russia! Stay tuned for many blog posts to come! I made a youtube video about this post, so if you're a more visual person the link to the video is below :)

  2. Oh the World Cup was so much fun. I wish I could have gone. Did you end up going yourself? I'm sure it was awesome. I can't wait for the World Cup to come to Canada so I can hopefully finally see some games.

  3. I think these what to pack lists are so very helpful! Sometimes travelers just have no idea what they should be packing. There have been many times when I have had to stop by a store once I got to my destination because I forgot something that I needed.
