MJ The Musical is a MUST SEE broadway show to check out!

MJ The Musical.

Address: 250 W 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019 (Neil Simon Theatre)

MJ the Musical is officially on Broadway. This broadway show was in previews through December and I finally was able to score some tickets for a special occasion. MJ The musical is set around the 1992 Dangerous World Tour in rehearsals with his dancers and crew. This musical was created by Tony Award-winning Director/Choreography Wheelson and two -time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage. In the musical you get a glimpse of The King of Pop's life throughout the years from his family life, the Jackson Five era, his music creativity, visions for his performances, and of course killer choreography. Singing 25 of his biggest hits, you'll be singing in your seat!

Although Michael Jackson had a lot of controversy in his personal life, this musical focuses on his talent and catalogue of legendary music. I know many people criticize that aspect not being shown within the show but remember this is a musical not a movie or documentary. There's so much you can put into a live performance during a limited time. There's hints and commentary of some of his controversy throughout the show. You also see the amount of stress he carried not only from his dad growing up but also throughout the years in his demanding career. There are flashback moments throughout the show with his family a lot which humanizes him and feel you empathy towards him.

I surprised my mother to tickets to MJ The Musical for her 55th birthday. I even got an extra ticket for my abuelita to tag along. Growing up, Michael Jackson's music was always playing in m household. I haven't attended a broadway show in a long time so I was so excited to attend one. We were lucky it didn't get canceled from the snowstorm the day before. It was also my first time watching a show at the Neil Simon Theatre and I was excited to see how it looked inside. With all the ever changing restrictions in New York City, we had to show our vaccination cards with ID and wear a mask to attend the show. There was a long line when we arrived but the wait wasn't very long to enter inside.

After being seated, I was in awe of the theatre, truly beautiful! It wasn't long until the theatre became packed. There were many theatre ushers making sure everyone kept their masks on at all times. The lights started to dim, the stage lights appeared and the show begun. When I tell you I had chills, goosebumps, and was in awe the whole time. The entire cast is truly TALENTED!  The whole production is spectacular from the set design, lighting, outfits and of course choreography. I was left speechless. I didn't realize when I purchased the tickets it was a two hour show.

During the intermission, the whole theatre couldn't stop raving how great the show was so far.  The show continued and the applause kept coming in after every act. You just wanted to get up to sing and dance with the cast. It was such a lively show. I don't think I've been to a broadway show with this energy in the room. Ten minutes before the show actually ended everyone was up on their feet singing, dancing and applauding non stop. It was seriously a stupendous show through and through. The cast like I mentioned before are just super, super, super talented. The standing ovations were for good reason. Can't recommend this show enough! Broadway week was extended till February 28th which is (buy one get on free tickets) so it's an excellent time to go see a show. Fun fact, just a day after attending this show, Michael Jackson's kids attended the show! If you're every in New York City and looking for something to do, book tickets to see MJ The Musical.
