Itching for weekend getaway in Catskills, New York? You have to book a stay at the Think Big A Tiny House Resort!

A Tiny House Resort

Address: 2776 Co Road 23B, South Cairo, New York 12482

Think Big A Tiny House Resort is located in the Catskills region, just a two hour drive from New York City. This property is the ideal place to go when you want to truly immerse yourself in nature. This 40 acre property with a 1/2 mile creek will make you feel re-charged and reinvigorated after a few days spent here! Whether you're coming during the colder months or the warmer months, you'll enjoy your time with the activities you're able to do on this property all year around!

This is a family owned resort and it's pet friendly. I love properties that are family owned and run because theres just a little more personalization, attention to detail, and sense of a home away from home feeling when you're staying in a property like this. A little backstory of this property from the founder, Bob Malkin. He first had a storefront in NYC called, Think Big, where he sold oversized pop art. Once that venture ended he invested into his next venture which is now the Think Big A Tiny House Resort with his daughter and god daughter. Not only do they run the tiny houses property but they also have waterfall rental properties!

With the New York mandates during this on going pandemic here's what to expect when booking a stay here right now:

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

  • Disinfection procedures implemented of tiny houses and no early check-in available for tiny houses
  • Vaccination cards and mask policy
  • Social distancing recommended

Kicking off the new year right with by having a quick escape to Catskills, New York. On the way  towards the property we were treated to a scenic drive with gorgeous mountain views, clear blue skies and fresh snow on the ground. As we pulled into the property we were greeted at the welcome desk where we filled out a form, got our keys, received a welcome bag and was informed about the amenities, activities, and how thinks work around the property. We drove down towards our tiny house that we would be staying in for the next couple of days. There are signs everywhere with the different tiny houses on the property. Each tiny house has it's own designated parking spot.

We stayed in The Lodge during our time in at Think Big A Tiny House Resort in 2022. It is the biggest tiny house on the property in terms of accommodating six people comfortably. Opening the door and seeing the inside of The Lodge, I was so surprised how spacious it felt. The layout is so well designed and felt very luxe. It has such aesthetic vibe, I felt every corner was picture worthy! There is a queen bed in the bedroom, two loft style areas one has two double beds and the other has another queen bed. The sofa could also be used a sleeping area which by the way is super comfy! I found myself lounging there a lot during my stay. There was also two TV's (in the living room area and bedroom) that had great streaming service selections to choose from if you wanted to chill out inside. Each tiny house has a fire pit, grill, and patio. You're not allowed bring in your own wood, there is firewood and starters available onsite.

We had the pleasure to stay again at this property in 2023 and this time around we were in The Flat. It's slowly becoming a tradition to have a winter getaway to this property in the beginning of the year! It's such a great way to have a reset being in nature and disconnecting. The Flat can accommodate up four people comfortably! There's a full kitchen, queen bed with privacy door, loft bed, bathroom, dining area, seating area, expanded deck with fire pit, grill and amazing views of the creek. I really loved the design of this tiny home because of all the big windows letting in all that nature light during the day. We were surprised with a smores board and we of course took advantage during our stay. I loved walking up early in the morning to catch the sunrise and it didn't disappoint. As a family we enjoyed listening to music, making meal together and exploring the walking trails of the property. Truly a remarkable time as always!

The tiny houses at this resort are all different from the design aspect inside to the occupancy it allows and where it's located on the property. I encourage you to check out their website to see the different style tiny houses you can choose from so you can book the one that speaks to you the most! Here are the other tiny houses available The Mizu, Lux, The Vista, The Little Bear, The Oki, The Mocha, The Green Bean, The Boho, The Big One, Nest Inn, Honey Comb, The Mystic, and The Hideout.

This property has an app that you can download on your phone which I think it's such a great touch! It has everything and anything you need information wise about the resort. They also have QR codes and videos to watch if you don't know how something works inside or outside of your tiny house accommodation.

I was truly wowed with how many activities you can do at this property. They have a tiny gym, kayaking, rafting, tubing, goat yoga, massages, electric bike rentals, hammocks to relax, goat walks, bike rentals, hiking, and their own waterfall on the property! One of my favorite parts of my stay was when we ventured off to see the waterfall. It was pretty cold that day and saw that the waterfall was partly frozen but still very cool to see. My mom and I ventured off closer to see the waterfall and was able to be up close! Truly a magical view during the winter season. The property has a snack shack and swag shop available for guests to purchase whatever you need during your stay as well. They also added activities like a candle making class. When we returned for second stay here, we attended the candle making class and it was such a cool experience. We got to take our newly made candles home as a souvenir!

Prior to arriving they sent a couple of emails with with curated travel recommendations from small towns to visit, points of interests, hiking trails, skiing locations, and shopping. A Tiny House Resort has it's own food truck where you can order food and drinks and they also deliver to your door which is awesome. Check to see the days and hours when they are open because during our stay it was closed. We enjoy cooking so it wasn't a big deal and had fun cooking up meals. But from the photos I've seen, the food truck has amazing food options. The charcuterie boards specifically look fantastic and insta-worthy as well!

If you have a special occasion coming up, let them know in advance! They make an effort to make each occasion and celebration special whether it's a surprise proposal, a birthday, anniversary, or honeymoon. They have different packages available to decorate your tiny house for those special moments to choose from.

One aspect of this property that was so unique to me was being able to pick your own eggs in the morning, seeing the farm animals, and going on a goat walk in afternoon! I didn't grow up being around farm animals so this was such a treat to see them on the property. We got a text in the afternoon, letting us know about the goat walk. I didn't know what to expect and as we got to the meet up location, we saw all the goats and sheep running wild and free. There was someone giving them food and it was so much fun walking around the property with the animals and learning the different names of each animal. This was such a special activity I know I won't forget and loved I was able to experience at A Tiny House Resort!

As much as words and photos can paint a picture of my experience, check out my youtube video (keep scrolling down) to see how the property looks like and the tiny house I got to stay in. From relaxing inside, playing jenga, watching movies, taking hikes, cooking, enjoying the views, sitting around the fire pit and having greta conversations, it was an amazing few days in the Catskills. I can't rave about this place enough and would definitely come back in the future.

Overall Thoughts.

This getaway is exactly what I needed to reset after a hectic year. I had an exquisite time at Think Big A Tiny House Resort. As mentioned earlier, we were sent a few emails prior to arriving explaining the check in process, a great list of recommendations of places to check out nearby, activities and amenities of the property and it was again repeated to us upon check in. This family owned resort is so welcoming,  accommodating, responsive, and very friendly! With the on going pandemic, I felt very safe staying here. All tiny houses are spread apart, so you have privacy whilst having the comfort of being socially distant from other guests on property. I love the tiny house we go to stay in (The Lodge and The Flat), it felt very spacious and had everything we could ever need for a relaxing getaway. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed! I loved the welcome gift bag that was provided, to everything labeled with instructions inside the tiny house, the proficient property app they have available to download, great communication, and the maintained walkways and driving areas. I couldn't recommend this property enough, it's truly an oasis in Catskills, New York!

  31. What a gorgeous escape, especially if you live in a metropolis like NYC. 15 or so tiny houses surrounded by beautiful nature on 40 acres certainly means you get your privacy and fabulous scenery. So much better than any city hotel! Love that you can as much or as little as you like with hikes, kayaks etc. The waterfall on the property is just another bonus. Would love to stay here sometime.
