Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort Lake Placid

If you're traveling to the Lake Placid area, look no further the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort is where you need to stay.

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort.

Address: 2559 Main Street, Lake Placid, New York 12946

The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort is located in the heart of Lake Placid. Just a 4-5 hour drive from New York City, you'll find yourself in the Adirondack region of upstate New York. This resort has everything you need for the perfect getaway and truly relax. With spacious rooms, spectacular views of Mirror Lake, welcoming staff, you won't want to check out of this property anytime soon.

Not only is Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort a woman owned resort but also has multi-generations of family working within the business today.  Wini and Stefani Holeried owners of  the resort, left Germany and started a new life in New York City. They pursued their American dream when buying this property when they moved to Lake Placid. Taking a 32 room motel in 1974 to expanding into a 166 room resort today is something to be very proud of. Learning the history of this resort just made love my time at this property even more. To read more in detail and journey of the history of this property (click here) for more information.

COVID-19 PROTOCALS:

  • Guests are required to fill out a health form (sent to your email 5 days before your arrival) 24 hours before checking in.
  • Guests are required to wear masks and social distance in common areas.
  • Housekeeping services occur between guest stays. You can request extra towels, coffee, etc if needed.
  • The indoor pool is open but only by reservation. You will meet in the lobby at your designated time frame and be accompanied to the pool to have access.
  • The sauna, steam room, and gym are all closed for now.
  • Common areas are cleaned frequently throughout the day.
  • Hand sanitizer is available all over the property.

If you do plan to travel or stay in accommodations like hotels and resorts, being a responsible traveler is very important. I got tested a few days prior to checking in and got tested when I got back home just to be on the safe side of things (tests came back negative, fyi).  2020 has been a very unpredictable year to say the least. From being in quarantine, staying locally all year, and adjusting to this new normal, I was in need of a getaway. Sometimes a change of scenery really does recharge your batteries and does the soul some good. This short getaway did that for sure, it uplifted my spirits and put me in a better head space. It also made me hopeful that travel + hospitality industry will recover and come back stronger in the future!

This was my first time checking in a resort since the pandemic started. I was curious to see how my experience will be like with this new normal. I'm glad to report back and say, I felt super safe and had peace of mind with all the protocols in place. After our very long 4-5 hour drive, we did arrive at night. Pulling up to the property, I loved how the outside of the resort was illuminated with lights everywhere. At the same time, snow flurries were descending from the sky just making our arrival that much special. I wasn't expecting to see snow this early in December nor was it in the forecast that I looked at prior to leaving but it was a great surprise nonetheless!

Checking in was a smooth and quick process. We were told the new changes, protocols, and information we needed for our stay. We noticed lots of signs everywhere reinforcing wearing masks and social distancing as well as hand sanitizer dispensers near the elevators. Our room was perfect and equipped with everything we needed (refrigerator, microwave, Keurig single cup brewers, hairdryer). We stayed in a specialty room, which have the same amenities of Deluxe rooms but with upgraded amenities like whirlpool tubs and/or fireplaces. We stayed in a Whiteface Speciality Room to be exact which has lakeside views, two queen size beds, a seating area, and stone fireplace. The couch pulls out for additional sleeping space, this room can sleep up to six people comfortably. As our room was located on the first floor (room 133), we had direct access to the outdoor area which we loved!

Our time spent at this resort was truly a tranquil experience. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit during the evening sipping on hot chocolate. We also couldn't stop snapping pictures in the ever so cozy lobby during the day. On our last morning, we saw fresh snow hitting the grounds and in the distance saw the pine trees sprinkled in white. Truly a winter wonderland scenic postcard view in every corner of the property.

This resort was centrally located and in walking distance to restaurants, shops, and attractions. The weather during our time here was pretty cold, cloudy, with a few snow flurries but that didn't stop us from exploring the area and enjoying our time. If you aren't familiar with the Lake Placid area, it is a great destination all year around no matter what season it is. I'm so glad I got to experience a slice of winter wonderland but would love to come back during the Spring or Fall months.

During the warmer months, you can enjoy a refreshing swim on their private beach! With an absolutely gorgeous back drop of the Adirondack Mountains, who wouldn't want to take a dip? Since motorized toys aren't allowed on Mirror Lake, they have complimentary canoes, row boats, kayaks, paddle boats, hydro bikes, stand up paddle boars that you can use on the water (on a first come, first served basis). Don't discount visiting during the Fall season. From pictures I've seen, the fall foliage looks like a dream especially with the reflection on Mirror Lake.

As I visited the first week of December, I got a taste of what winter looks like in this area. But at Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, they surely know how to maximize winter activities on their property. When the lake is safely frozen over, it's open as an ice rink! That truly sounds like a great way to spend a winter day. they also have dog sled rides which is set up by a third party (Lake Placid Dog Sledding). I've never experienced that before but I'm sure it's an memorable experience. The dog sled experience is also at a first come, first serve basis. So as you can see, there is something for everyone all year round.

When booking a room at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort it is important to note the different kinds of rooms they have to offer. For starters, you can book a lakeside view room or village facing room. I highly recommend staying in a lakeside view room, walking up to the incredible view was a highlight every day. The type of rooms also differ from Deluxe Rooms, Speciality Rooms, Kitchenette Rooms, and Family Suites.

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort is also pet-friendly. You can bring your furry friends to the property for a fee. Here's more information on what to expect when bringing your pet to the resort (click here). This resort is also eco-friendly. Golden Arrow Lakseside Resort took an initiative to implement more sustainable and environment friendly practices into their resort and business since 2005. Here are a few ways this resort goes green; in-room recycling, green roof, solar-thermal panels, e-waste recycling, energy efficient lighting and heating, storm water management, their restaurant uses organic and local food, paper products are all made of 100% recycled content and so much more. In 2009, the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort was the first resort in the United States to get a Five-Leaf rating (highest rating) by Audubon International.  I love the green practices this resort has put into place and moving forward I would love to showcase more eco-friendly accommodations in my future travels.

If you're planning to have a wedding, the Golden Arrow Lakeside resort also has wedding services and packages to offer.  Another thing to note is that they also own a restaurant next door called Generations. The food and service is astounding, highly recommend going for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The resort also has direct access to Alpine Mall which was a cool aspect I didn't expect. Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort continues to renovate, expand, upgrade their property throughout the years. They recently did a few upgrades to make their guests get the best of out of their time at the resort. With the attention to detail, hospitality, and service, I can see myself returning and staying here time after time. Couldn't recommend this property enough!

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort Lake Placid New York

Overall Thoughts.
I felt very safe and comforted that this resort took all the safety precautions possible during this pandemic period. From checking in to check out, the hospitality at Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort was impeccable. The holiday decor brought an extra sense of cheer and homeyness to the property. Our room was spacious and comfortable with stunning views every day of Mirror Lake. Having the convenience of having everything in walking distance was awesome. The property is well maintained and loved seeing common spaces being cleaned and disinfected. Something about the Lake Placid air in combination in staying in this property gave me a full recharge which was very much needed. If you come in a small/big group or alone, this resort is truly the perfect place to check in. I highly recommend booking a stay here if you're in the area, you surely won't regret it!

  34. I also do hotel reviews during the New Normal and i am glad that this hotel is doing extra effort to ensure their guests are safe. I love saunas and its a bummer that all hotels have closed it due to health and safety a bummer but a necessary thing to do.
