Why You Need to Add Segovia To Your Spain Itinerary

Things to do in Segovia Spain

Sadly leaving Madrid en route to Bilbao but before heading there we made a pit stop in the charming city of Segovia.

Segovia, España.
Segovia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also known for it's Roman Aqueduct. As soon as you enter the city you can't miss it, the aqueduct is one of the main attractions of the city and you will see why. It was built by the Romans around 1 Century AD (yes, that old) and although it hasn’t been used fully since 1908 it still manages to today! The aqueduct is built entirely from stone, with no concrete or anything holding it together which I found to be super impressive. Another point of interest is the Alcazar which many believe Disney used as an outline for their infamous iconic castle. The Segovia Cathedral is another site to see in this city. Located within the main city square (Plaza Mayor), the gothic style church that's been in existence since 1525. It's such a stunning church from the outside as it is on the inside. Whether you're staying in Madrid and wanting to do a day trip here or if you road tripping around Spain, you definitely need add this to your itinerary. The three modes of transportation in getting here is either a train. bus, or driving.

Since this was a pit stop city we were only there for a couple of hours before heading back on the coach to get to Bilbao. Within those couple of hours, this charming city captivated you with every cobble street corner turn, dreamy castles, and beautiful views. We had a short walking tour throughout the city, make sure you wear comfortable shoes here because of the uphill walks and cobble stone streets. We ended our walking tour after reaching the Alcazar and then you had a few hours of free time to do whatever you wanted. I loved walking around the streets and trying out the cute cafe's that surrounded the city. There was also lots of shops around the main street if you interested in some shopping. There were breathtaking views in every corner. If you want one of the best views make sure you make your way to the top of the Aqueduct to see the city from above. Here are a few shots I took while exploring the city of Segovia.

  1. Wap, all the photos are amazing. Each tells a different story. But my personal favourite is the one in which you are standing in front of the castles. I am always drawn to them. Thanks for showing us this side of Segovia.

  4. The first time I heard the word Segovia was because of Andre Segovia, the classical guitarist, since I was learning one of his pieces. I would so love to visit Spain and Segovia seems like a lovely place to explore.

  5. That aqueduct is simply amazing. How tall is it - looks nothing less than a six storied building. The cobble stone streets look so attractive.
