10 Best Travel Apps of 2017

There are about a zillion travel apps out there. It might get very confusing to choose the ones that will actually help you to make your trip better. Here are some of my favorite apps that I use every time I travel or simply for planning a trip in advance. The list is in no particular order!

10 Best Travel Apps:

Skyscanner.
This is my go to app when searching for flights. I'm big fan of their “search everywhere” and “cheapest month” capabilities. “Search everywhere” ranks destinations from cheapest to most expensive - this is great for travelers who are open to traveling to any destination around the world. On the other hand, “cheapest month” is great for travelers who are flexible with dates. I love that you can use both features at the same time or just one to find cheap flights. Another feature that I love is Skyscanner's price alerts. I get a price alert letting me know of any fluctuations in price which is a great way to get the best deal on flights!

Google Translate.
Just type in what you want to say, choose the language you need it translated it to and boom. A really cool feature with the Google Translate app there's a camera feature! You can hold up the camera and it will translate signs, text, menus, and etc for you. I also love that this app works offline as well!

Airbnb.
I love using Airbnb when I travel because I love the feeling of being a local in a city I don’t know. Owners are always more than happy to offer their insightful advice, and who knows, they might even take you out to dinner. It’s also nice to have access to a kitchen and laundry facilities, especially if you tend to travel for more than just a few days.

Hotel Tonight.
Get last-minute discounts on top-rated hotels using Hotel Tonight. You can only book a week in advance, so it’s not the best option for a long-planned family vacation…but for a fun, spur-of-the-moment getaway? Perfect!

Hostel World.
This is a great app if you’re planning to stay in hostels. It’ll give you a run-down of all the in a certain city, listing their amenities and room types. The best part is the user reviews so you can make sure you’re not going to be staying in a sketchy place. Also hostels are a great way to make new friends from all over the world!

XE Currency.
Apart from foreign languages, foreign currencies can be such a pain whenever you travel! Add the fact that there are constant currency fluctuations in the market, so it’s very difficult to be consistently with exchange rates — unless of course, you have XE Currency with you! It offers LIVE currency rates, charts, and even stores the last updated rates, so it works offline. and it's free! You can simultaneously monitor up to 10 currencies, pin your base currency to the top, and more! Save yourself a math headache with this app that helps you keep track of exactly what you’re spending so you don’t end up blindly throwing cash around and going way over budget.

Expensify.
This app is great way to keep track of your expenses while travelling. You can document everything you buy, transportation fares, food expenses, and etc by taking pictures of your receipts. If your on a business trip or whatever it is you can keep tabs on your spending especially if you want to use it for taxes. The best thing about this app is that it's free!

AroundMe.
Whether you need an ATM, bus station, a cinema, or a taxi rank, this app will help you find one close by. You need internet to use it, so it’d be perfect in a big city with Wi-Fi hotspots.

WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is great for staying in touch with family and friends back home while you are traveling the world. But it is also great to communicate with locals in a foreign country. You see, in many developing countries WhatsApp is very popular as it is free to use. I love it, especially that you can call through the app. It’s free and works all over the world, all you need is wifi!

Pintrest.
You may be confused as to why I put down Pintrest as a favorite travel app. Well if you are travelling somewhere new whether you're solo or with a group, Pintrest is the place to find activities and recommendations for that specific location. You can search things to do, best restaurants, top things to see, and etc in whatever location and a bunch of pins will appear with suggestions. I have found a bunch of new things to add to my itinerary because of Pintrest!

Comment below,
What's your favorite travel app?

Until the next post!
